Terms of Service

Updated on November 4, 2026.

These Terms explain the conditions for using the Fluentei app (including its game) and this site. Please also read the Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data.

Access and account

Using Fluentei, including the app (and its game) and this site, is for people 18 and older. Before you start studying for the first time, you confirm that you meet this condition and give accurate information. You are responsible for protecting access to your email and to your Google account or Apple ID, when linked, and for telling us if you suspect unauthorized use of your Fluentei account.

You can sign in with Google, with Apple (in the iPhone app), or with a code sent to the account’s email. Linking or unlinking Google under Profile › Account changes how you sign in; it does not delete your study history. Signing in with an email code remains available for the account’s verified email.

What the service offers

Fluentei offers tools for studying Japanese with texts, explanations, listening, vocabulary, review, and game experiences. We will tell affected users about relevant changes, under the conditions below. We do not promise a specific learning result or uninterrupted availability.

AI-generated content

At Fluentei, artificial intelligence writes the translations and explanations in your Notebooks, the Lessons made from your Pages, and the song lyrics, and it records the songs and narrations. This content is a study aid and may contain errors or incomplete interpretations.

We do not use your conversations or the texts you send to train artificial intelligence models.

We work to get it right. The readings and dictionary forms of words come from an analysis of the Japanese done with a dictionary, not from an AI model. Each translation is checked against the exact sentences of your text: one that does not match is redone, and a Page that still does not add up is not delivered. A song’s lyrics go through an automatic review before the recording is made, and the recording is listened to and compared with the lyrics: only the lines that are confirmed get synchronized highlighting, and the others stay in the lyrics without it. If we can’t produce a Japanese recording you can study with, the song is not delivered. Sensitive themes are adapted, with a notice, or refused. These checks are automatic. There is no human review of each piece of content, and the checks do not guarantee that everything is correct.

Check anything that matters to you against another source, for example before an exam or professional use. If you find an error, write to suporte@fluentei.com.br and tell us which Notebook or song and which passage.

When a creation fails without delivering the result, the credits held for it return to your balance automatically; you don’t need to ask. If only some of the Pages of a text are delivered, you pay only for the ones you received.

Chat with Ginga (beta)

Chat with Ginga, available on the Plus and Pro plans and during the trial period, answers questions about Japanese and about the texts in your Notebooks. The answers are generated by artificial intelligence from your question, the Notebook passage, and Fluentei’s dictionary and grammar references. Like the rest of the AI-generated content, they may contain errors: check anything that matters to you against another source.

The chat is not available to people who say they are under 18.

The chat is for studying Japanese. Requests on other subjects get a suggestion to return to your studies, and requests that try to change Ginga’s rules or to get harmful content are refused. Repeating that kind of request can pause the chat for a while.

On Plus, the chat includes up to 80 replies a day, counting the chats with Ginga and those in the Notebook, and 1 Ginga challenge a day. During the trial, up to 20 replies and 1 challenge a day. On Pro, the chat and the challenges have no daily limit, within fair use. The chat does not use up your plan’s explanations.

The chat and the Ginga challenges are in beta: they may reach accounts gradually and be unavailable for a while. Relevant changes or discontinuation follow Plan changes: 30 days’ notice and cancellation without penalty (on the annual plan, ask the store for a refund of the unused period). You can rate each answer and tell us what you thought.

Fair use

Fair use keeps Ginga working well for everyone who studies. It is for personal study: don’t use automation, don’t share your access, and don’t try to get around the controls.

Pace: up to 15 messages a minute per account, and one reply in progress at a time. If you go over that pace, wait a few seconds before sending another message.

Daily limit: on Plus, up to 80 replies a day; during the trial, up to 20. When you reach the limit, the chat pauses and returns at midnight, Brasília time (03:00 UTC). Pro has no daily limit.

Monthly ceiling: each plan has a monthly ceiling on the use of Ginga’s artificial intelligence, which regular study does not usually reach. It measures the size of the conversations, not the number of messages, and it never creates a charge. On Pro, which has no daily limit, the pace and the monthly ceiling apply. When you reach it, the chat pauses and returns at the start of the next monthly cycle; in the trial, the ceiling applies to the whole trial period. The return date appears in the chat.

Safety answers apply message by message, on every plan: no account is blocked or limited automatically. If you need help, write to suporte@fluentei.com.br.

Beyond the plan limits published in these Terms, we do not restrict the chat automatically. We may review chats case by case, and we notify you before taking any action, except in cases of fraud, security risk, or legal requirement.

How we create the catalog’s readings and songs

Where they come from

  • Original texts, written and edited with AI for Fluentei, including folk tales in the public domain, such as 桃太郎, retold from scratch.
  • Original readings: Japanese literature in the public domain, from Aozora Bunko, by authors who died by 1955, unaltered and with the author and source credited.
  • Adaptations: easier retellings of an original reading, always identified and linked to it; they are never presented as the author’s text.
  • The catalog’s songs are original songs made for Fluentei, with lyrics and recording created by AI, without copying existing lyrics or imitating artists.

How we check quality

  • In a text written for Fluentei, at least 95% of the words (not counting proper names and other exceptions) must be at that level, according to unofficial JLPT lists and frequency data; the grammar is assessed by AI. A text that doesn’t reach the level is revised, never reclassified. An original reading harder than N1 appears as “Original reading · advanced level”.
  • After it is written and revised by AI, each Fluentei text is read by an independent AI reviewer that did not write it, to check naturalness, culture and level.
  • The meanings of words, the furigana that look suspicious and the study material go through the same kind of review, and whatever stays in doubt is not shown. The translations go through the same automatic checks as the Notebooks, and the narration is recorded by AI without a check.
  • For the catalog’s songs, the JLPT level of each lyric is assessed before recording, and the level shown is the assessed one, not the requested one. The kana reading of each word is checked against an analysis of the Japanese done with a dictionary, and the song is sung from that reading. Then the recording is listened to and compared with the lyrics by an automatic review, and one that swaps a word is discarded.
  • Finally, the person responsible for Fluentei approves the catalog before it is published to all users; every catalog song was listened to before it was approved.

What we do not guarantee yet

  • The level is approximate; it is not a JLPT certification.
  • Reviews by AI do not guarantee that everything is right.
  • Found a mistake? Use “Report an error” in the reading (the Privacy Policy says what is sent) or, in a song, write to suporte@fluentei.com.br.

Texts you send

You remain responsible for the rights to the material you send, and you must have permission to use it for the operations you request. Receiving a text for study does not transfer its ownership to Fluentei. We handle the material privately to offer the features you choose, under the notices and permissions shown at each step.

Sending does not authorize publishing your material, use by other learners, or reuse for a different purpose. Some features need to pass the necessary excerpts to artificial intelligence providers; we explain this processing in the Privacy Policy and in the feature’s notices.

YouTube videos

The videos in the video Notebooks play in the official YouTube player. By watching them, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.

Responsible use

Don’t use Fluentei to violate the rights of others, send unlawful material, defraud accounts, overload the service, or get around security controls. No account is suspended or restricted automatically. We may review breaches one by one and then restrict the access necessary to contain abuse, protect other users, or comply with the law. Before suspending or restricting your account, we notify you and let you contest the measure through the contact given at the end, except in cases of fraud, security risk, or legal requirement.

Plans and billing

Free doesn’t ask for a card and never charges you. It does not include creation credits: creating Notebooks from your own texts and creating songs are features of Plus, Pro, and the trial. On Free, you use the free catalog content, the dictionary, your vocabulary, and your reviews. On Free, credits added by support stay saved; credits returned by a creation that failed after the plan ended stay saved for 30 days and then expire. Both can only be used with Plus, Pro, or the trial.

When a paid plan or the trial ends, Free gives you only the catalog’s free content. Your personal Notebooks and the songs you created stay saved, but open only with a paid plan. Words saved only from paid content or from your own creations are paused in Review until you subscribe again, with your progress preserved; those saved in games or in the free catalog continue. Nothing is deleted. You can ask support for access to and a copy of your personal data, and deleting your account remains available.

Plus and Pro are paid subscriptions with automatic renewal. Both give access to the same catalog and the same tools; what changes is the amount of credits and explanations and the daily limit on Chat with Ginga: Plus gives 30 credits a month and Pro, 80. The first time you subscribe to either one, you get a 7-day trial with 30 credits and 100 explanations, granted once per account and valid until the end of the trial. The store shows the terms of the trial before you confirm, and nothing is charged during it. Canceling in the store before the trial ends avoids the first charge.

The first charge happens at the end of the trial, 7 days after you subscribe; if you have already used the trial, it happens when you subscribe. The regular price is R$59.90 a month or R$599.00 a year on Plus, and R$99.90 a month or R$999.00 a year on Pro, depending on the period you choose. The annual period costs 10 monthly payments for 12 months of access, and the credits of the annual period are released month by month, in the same amount as the monthly one.

While the launch promotion is open, subscribers pay R$39.90 a month on Plus or R$59.90 on Pro for the 12 months from the first charge, or R$399.00 on Plus or R$599.00 on Pro for the first year, on the annual period. After that, renewal is at the regular price of the plan and the period. The promotion can be closed to new subscriptions at any time; people who already subscribed keep the launch price for the 12 months, and a late payment does not extend that period. The store shows the amount before you confirm.

The founder price applies to people who already had that status registered at launch and who create their account with the same email. That status does not change later. For people with that status, the founder price applies instead of the launch price: 56% off the regular price on Plus and 61% on Pro, for the 12 months from the first paid charge. Monthly, it is R$25.90 a month on Plus or R$38.90 on Pro; annually, R$259.00 on Plus or R$389.00 on Pro for the first year. After that, renewal is at the regular price: R$59.90 a month on Plus or R$99.90 on Pro, or R$599.00 on Plus or R$999.00 on Pro a year. The founder price does not combine with the launch price or with other discounts. It applies once per account: if you cancel and subscribe again, the price offered to new subscriptions applies. The store shows the amount before you confirm.

The subscription renews automatically for the same period, monthly or annual, until you cancel. After the launch price or the founder price ends, each charge is at the regular price. The credits of paid plans do not accumulate: the unused balance expires at the end of each month of the cycle.

To change plan or period, cancel the renewal and subscribe to the option you want after the current subscription ends, or talk to support.

If you already have a paid plan, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance about relevant changes to the features, limits or price of your plan. If you don’t agree, you can cancel without penalty; on the annual plan, ask the store for a refund of the unused period, and if the store refuses, talk to support. For new subscriptions, the price the store shows before you confirm applies.

The dictionary is included in all plans and uses no credits or explanations. Each new answer from “Explain this” or “Why this form here?” uses one explanation: 300 a month on Plus, 600 on Pro, and 100 during the trial. Saved answers don’t use another one. Explanations do not accumulate and are released month by month, including on the annual period. The counter appears once you’ve used 80%.

The paid catalog of readings and songs requires an active subscription, even for content opened before. Without paid access, you can listen to a 20-second preview of the paid songs. If a payment fails, paid access and the assistance already paid for continue during the grace period while the payment is retried. New creations wait for the payment to be confirmed, and no new allowance is released before it.

With Plus, Pro, or the trial, preparing a text in a Notebook uses credits according to the length of the text and the sentences still to be prepared. As a reference, in prose, 600 characters use about 2 credits; 2,000, 7; 4,300, 15; and 12,000, 39; texts with many short lines use more. The price includes the Japanese audio of each Page prepared: listening to the sentences uses no credits or explanations. A sentence’s audio is generated the first time you listen to it, without using the monthly explanation allowance, and a Page that wasn’t prepared has no audio. A Page that is already prepared is not charged again. A song uses 10 credits, including its lyrics Notebook. The cost of each creation appears before you confirm.

You can cancel just the renewal in the store’s subscriptions, as described in Subscribing through the app. In that case, the plan continues until the end of the period already paid and there is no next charge. Canceling during the trial avoids the first charge. After that, your creations stay saved, but open only with a paid plan, as described in when a paid plan ends.

Except for the changes to the annual plan described above and other cases of refund provided by law, canceling the renewal does not generate a prorated refund for the period already paid. Refunds are handled by the store you subscribed through, under its policy. If a creation fails without delivering the result, the credits used return to your balance.

Payments are processed by the store you subscribe through. Fluentei does not receive or store your card data; we keep only the link to the subscription and the record of confirmed charges, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Ending the subscription removes the benefits of the paid plan, including creating Notebooks and songs and using the ones you created, which stay saved as described in when a paid plan ends. Ending the subscription does not delete your account or your data.

Subscribing through the app (Google Play and App Store)

In the app, you subscribe to Plus or Pro through your device’s store: Google Play on Android, or the App Store on iPhone. The store makes the charge and handles your card data; Fluentei does not receive it.

  • Price: before you confirm, the store shows the price, the period (monthly or annual), and, when there is one, the free trial and the launch price. The amount charged is the one the store showed.
  • Renewal: the subscription renews automatically for the same period until you cancel. When there is a trial, the first charge happens at the end of it, and canceling before then avoids that charge.
  • Cancellation: cancel the renewal in the store’s subscriptions: on Google Play, under Payments & subscriptions; on the App Store, in your Apple ID settings. The plan continues until the end of the period already paid, and there is no next charge. To change plan or period, use the store’s subscriptions too.
  • Refunds: the store decides refund requests, under its own policy. Ask the store for the refund.

Credits, explanations and the end of the plan follow the same rules as Plans and billing, including when a paid plan ends.

Ending your account and your data

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time under Profile › Account › Delete account in the app, or ask for the deletion through Fluentei’s contact. Deletion is immediate and can’t be undone. The Privacy Policy explains what we delete, what stays, and the legal grounds for keeping data. Signing out or unlinking Google is not the same as deleting the account.

Before deleting the account, we immediately cancel any subscription made through Google Play, with no prorated charge. On the App Store, Apple does not let Fluentei cancel for you: the charge continues until you cancel in your Apple settings.

Refund on deletion: as with canceling the renewal, deletion does not generate a prorated refund for the days already paid, except for the other cases of refund in these Terms and in the law. On Google Play and the App Store, ask the store for the refund, under its policy.

Changes and your rights

We will publish the updated version of the Terms on this page. If a change significantly affects how the service is used, we will tell the affected users and ask for a new acceptance when needed. Your rights under Brazilian law, including consumer rights, remain applicable.

You can bring an action in the courts of your place of residence, under art. 101, I, of the Consumer Defense Code.
